Cyber Cafe gets tech upgrade from Red River Valley giving
The Cyber Cafe received a donation from Best Buy of Fargo, along with help from private donors and the Wadena Family Service Collaborative, from which they were able to purchase six Dell Inspiron laptops, an HP printer, two 40-inch flat screen TVs, an Xbox Kinect and a Nintendo Wii.
Consumers in the Fargo area pooled their Best Buy Reward Zone points which normally go to personal discounts, totalling 300,000 points or about $7,000, for Wadena in the aftermath of the tornado which destroyed the high school media center among other public facilities.
Mayor Wayne Wolden said that Wadena has received a lot of support from the Red River Valley.
Cyber Cafe board chairwoman Ann Pate said that after Wadena-Deer Creek students had gone to the Red River Valley for sandbagging, Fargo area residents told her they wanted to help Wadena in return.
"We're just very grateful for the people of the Red River Valley and Best Buy," Pate said.
