Cuppy's journal

I suspect like everyone else, every day is a challenge trying to keep a routine in our diet. As the days get warmer it encourages me to continue on, because I want to be looking and feeling much better by the summer. I know I will still have several pounds to go, but it sure beats being at 398 pounds. I would prefer to walk outside but I'm going to stay on the treadmill which will help me keep a steady pace. I'm like everyone else I hate looking at a wall for an hour each day while on the treadmill, so I have developed strategies to fool my mind and help pass the time. I have a large selection of my favorite music and I use the treadmill in cardio rehab at the hospital which has a window so I can at least look outside and watch the scenery and the people coming and going. People have also stopped in to talk with me which has helped pass the time. Now mind you I usually allow them to do most of the talking, I'm still learning to talk and walk at the same time. It's probably a good thing I don't chew gum, I might fall off the treadmill.

I'm by no means a great example on how to lose weight, but I enjoy talking and helping others in anyway possible to get them started or maybe break a plateau. I want to return the same kindness and support I have received during my journey to the land of fitness. I can say with total certainty that losing weight can be very hard and it requires a great deal of will power and support. We live in a world where we are on the go all the time going to work, taking the kids to and from their activities, working around the house and the list goes on. Leaving us less time to sit down and enjoy a healthy meal with the family. As you know there are fast food restaurants all around us making it easy for us to feed the family and ourselves and over time it does catch up with us and if you're one of the lucky ones that doesn't gain weight you more than likely can be affected in other ways such as high cholesterol, hypertension and diabetes, just to name a few.

My goal by Christmas is to be down to 220. I know when I have met my goal weight I will have somewhat of a rebound effect and I would be very happy at 230 or 240, but no more than that. I know I will be challenged like everyone else with holidays and special events involving food. I'm learning slowly that I'm to "eat to live" and not "live to eat." During our weigh-ins on Saturday, everyone is so very encouraging and upbeat sharing different menu ideas and little tricks they have learned along the way. One thing I do during this weight loss program is to have a day of freedom to eat some of the things I normally wouldn't eat and yes, it is usually after weigh-in on Saturdays. I know I'm not the only one that does it and that's great, otherwise you have a high chance of binging or quitting altogether and that is not what you want to happen. I heard one gentleman say he was going out for breakfast. Well I saved mine for Chinese in the afternoon and boy was it delicious. I have noticed that I get full much faster now, I hate that because I love food. However, I start out the meal with a large glass of water to help me from over eating. I want to encourage the others to stay the course and over time you will win the battle of the bulge and become victorious, we are in this together and good luck.
