Craig records two firsts at Mid-State; Meyer wins shot put
Wadena-Deer Creek's Rachel Craig captured two firsts and Logan Meyer claimed one Tuesday in the Mid-State Conference Championships.
Craig tossed the discus 97 feet and cleared the bar at five feet in the high jump. She also ran a fourth-place time of 17.30 in the 100 hurdles.
Meyer dominated the shot put with a winning throw of 49-6. Pequot Lakes' Thomas Parker claimed second with a 46-3. Meyer also finished third in the discus with a 123-6.5.
Charley Cantrell turned in a 5:36.87 time to take runner-up honors in the 1,600. Other strong individual finishes for the Wolverines came from Emma Schmitz, who ran a fifth place time of 12:42.75 in the 3,200 and Shaye Blessing who took sixth in the 300 hurdles with a 51.34.
Brian Huber scored four firsts for Staples-Motley in the 100 and 200 dash events and the long and triple jump.
Staples-Motley's Jaelin Beachy gave her club victories in the 100 and 300 hurdles.
Event winners in the Mid-State Championships earn all-conference honors.
