Cowgirls hand Wolverines 18-8 setback

Crystal Bridgers went 3-for-3 at the plate, homered and drove in five runs Friday as the Breckenridge Cowgirls toppled Wadena-Deer Creek 18-8 in a five-inning game at Breck.

All nine girls in the Breckenridge lineup scored runs in the game.

Michaela Lehmkuhl Sam Manselle and Madison Barthel combined for six hits, six RBIs and four runs in the loss.

The Wadena-Deer Creek Wolverines won their first two games of the season Tuesday as they swept Crosby-Ironton in a Mid-State doubleheader at Crosby.

Michaela Lehmkuhl had four singles, a home run and three RBIs  as the Wolverines romped 16-1 in the opener.  Morgan Zeise singled and doubled, drove in four runs, scored three times. Sam Manselle singled and tripled and drove in three RBIs.

Victoria Witthuhn threw shutout ball for the first six frames before giving back-to-back singles to Kerra Grittner and Rebecca Sharp in the seventh that produced a run.

Zeise scattered five hits as the Wolverines blanked the Rangers 11-0 in Game 2.

Lehmkuhl singled, doubled, scored twice and drove in two RBIs.

Maddy Hinojos singled, doubled and scored twice batting in the leadoff spot. Zeise singled, doubled, scored twice and drove in a pair of runs. Madison Barthel and Victoria Witthuhn each scored twice.

The Wolverines built a 5-0 lead in the first three innings and struck six times in the fourth.

Kryston Wiseley collected a pair of singles for Crosby-Ironton.

The sweep gave the Wolverines a 2-10 record overall and a 2-8 mark in conference play.
