County strikes deal with employees
The Wadena County Board reached tentative salary and benefit agreements with some of the county's bargaining units, which include no paid step increases this year but a wage increase of 24 cents an hour.
The Teamsters units along with department heads and confidential employees will be credited for their service during 2010 for continued advancement on the step schedule, but no step increases will actually be paid this year, according to the agreements.
There will be no cost of living increase in 2010.
The county will increase its contribution in any amount sufficient to pay one-half of the increased premium cost of the $200 deductible health insurance plan, according to the agreements.
The Teamsters agreements are effective Jan. 1, 2010, through Dec. 31, 2010.
The department head and confidential employees agreements are effective Jan. 1, 2010, to Dec. 31, 2012. These agreements, however, may be reopened for purposes of renegotiating wages effective Jan. 1, 2011, and Jan. 1, 2012.
The board did not discuss the 24-cent wage increase being given to elected officials who are department heads, according to Auditor/Treasurer Char West.
