County approves wind tower permit
The Wadena County Board gave a go-ahead on a wind tower.
After the Wadena County Commissioners meeting of Aug. 3, wherein a conditional use permit application was brought before the board, a decision to approve the permit was made.
At the time the board closed the previous meeting, and tabled the permit application, discussion was limited to board discussion, therefore, no public comment was welcome during the Aug. 19 board meeting. County Attorney Kyra Ladd reviewed the information given to her, along with the permit application. Ladd reported to the board that, after review of all information presented to her, though valid concerns were brought up and discussed, there was no legal reason for denying the permit.
Commissioner Dave Shermerhorn made a motion to approve the permit, seconded by Commissioner Lane Waldahl. Commissioners Bill Stearns joined Waldahl and Shermerhorn and voted in favor of the motion, while Commissioners Ralph Miller and Rodney Bounds voted in opposition.
Upon Ladd's advice, the board voted unanimously for a 120 day moratorium on the county's current Small Wind Energy Conversion System Ordinance, pending review and possible revision.
Veteran's Memorial Park looking for a home
Dave Ludovissie, representing the Wadena VFW, approached the board seeking recommendations for a location for the Veteran's Memorial Park. The VFW has approached Ft. Ripley, looking at the possibility of obtaining an inactive helicopter. Ludovissie asked the board for possible locations for the helicopter. Possible locations discussed included the Courthouse lawn, the Burlington Northern Park and the County Fairgrounds. Commissioners Waldahl and Bounds were appointed to a committee to work with the VFW and the Fair Board to further discuss and make recommendations to the Board.
