The Mass of Christian Burial for Conrad Henry Schmidt of Wadena, will be celebrated on Saturday, April 12, 2014, at St. Anns Catholic Church in Wadena, with Father Aaron Kuhn as celebrant. Friends may call on Friday at the Johnson-Schuller Chapel in Wadena from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m., with Prayers at 5:00, A Time of Sharing at 6:00, and Rosary at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will resume at the church on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service. At the age of 92, Conrad passed away on April 7, 2014, at Fair Oaks Lodge in Wadena.

Conrad was born in Hebron ND, on February 25, 1922, to Jacob and Anna (Glass) Schmidt. He grew up in western North Dakota and has been called the last of the cowboys. Having only attended school through 6th grade, he joined the Civilian Conservation Corps at the age of fifteen. With the CCC he traveled through Wyoming, worked in Leach lake MN, and Itasca State Park. Conrad was united in marriage with Viola Krein on June 4, 1946, at St. Anne's Church in Hebron ND. His career throughout his life was farming. He loved horses and especially enjoyed riding army remounts as well as going to cavalry stations with his daughter. Favorite horses of his were Thunder and Lightning. Conrad and his family moved to MN in 1955 to a farm about 1 mile away from his brother's farm. His favorite dog, Laddie, saved his life when he was attacked by a mother raccoon. His favorite things about farming included milking cows, raising feeder pigs, and custom farming. After Conrad retired he enjoyed spending his time building old tractors for Jim Richter.

Conrad was preceded in death by his wife Viola in 1991; parents Jacob and Anna; and siblings Jacob (Josephine), Frank (Laurie), John (Katherine), Nick (Elizabeth), Henry (Helen), Carl (Rose), and Elsie.

He is survived by his daughter Jacqueline (Jerry) Goldie; foster son Emil Jo Kroenig (Ellen) of Oakland CA; grandchildren Jordan (Leigh) Goldie and Jodan (Murali Kuchibholta) Goldie; along with great-grandchildren Lincoln Barrow, Asher Barrow, and Alina Goldie.

Honorary pallbearers will be Mike Fraune, Ron Horn, Ron Reed, Ed Breuer, and Jim Richter. Serving as pallbearers will be Gary Richter, Larry Sworski, Frank Tranby, Harvey McGrane, Gary Zacharias and Darcy Brauch.

Burial will take place at Calvary Cemetery.

Arrangements are with the Johnson-Schuller Chapel in Wadena. (
