Charlotte (Rennaker) Folkestad

Funeral services for Charlotte (Rennaker) Folkestad will be held Friday, November 15, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at the Wadena Alliance Church with Pastor Vaughn White presiding. Visitation will be held Thursday from 5:00-8:00p.m. at the Johnson-Schuller Chapel in Wadena, and will resume at the church on Friday from 9:30a.m. until the time of service. At the age of 91, Charlotte passed away on November 9, 2013, at Fair Oaks Lodge in Wadena, MN.

She was born to Herbert and Hilda (Kirkeeng) Johnson November 17, 1921 in Wing River Township Wadena County near Blue Grass, MN. She graduated from Wadena High School in 1939, attended Staples Normal Training School and taught in Wadena County Rural Schools. She married Darrell (Dick) Rennaker on July 18, 1942. She graduated from St. Cloud State University, taught elementary school students in Anoka-Hennepin School District #11 and was Elementary School Principal of Pillager School District #116. Her life reflected a deep devotion to and a love for the children in her care. She worked with youth as a Sunday School teacher and directed VBS, was a certified Reading Director and a Laubach Adult Illiteracy Tutor for the State Right to Read Program and a Junior Great Books discussion leader. She enjoyed 4-H club work, sewing, crocheting, and community activities. On May 21, 1993, she married Howard Folkestad.

She is survived by daughter, Linda (Michael) Brown of Coon Rapids, Mn; sons, Jerry (Dauna) Rennaker of Phoenix, AZ; Daniel (Joy) Rennaker of East Gull Lake, Mn; James Rennaker of Little Falls, Mn; step-daughters, Judy (Charles) Jones of Fort Meyers, Fl; Nancy (Curt) Goehring of Sarasota, Fl, Jeri Terveer, of Wadena, Mn, and Sue Stromberg of Coon Rapids, Mn; step-son Dave (Sharon) Folkestad of Wadena, Mn, step-son-in-law, Don Leyh of Bertha, Mn; sister, Verlys Dilley; brother, Gail (Leona) Johnson, brother-in-law, Roger (Marie) Folkestad; ten grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren and one great, great grandson; 20 step-grandchildren and 44 step-great grandchildren and 3 step-great, great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Darrell (Dick) Rennaker, second husband, Howard Folkestad, step-daughter, Jean Leyh, step-son-in-law Larry Terveer, step-son-in-law Greg Stromberg, grandson-in-law, Derek Junk; and brother-in-law Lyle Dilley.

Interment will be at the Wadena Cemetery.
