Charles Louis Winkelman, Sr., 68, passed away peacefully March 29, 2009, while on vacation in Arkansas.
Charles Louis Winkelman, Sr. was born on May 14, 1940, in Minneapolis to Ralph Carl and Irene Marie (Trost) Winkelman. He grew up in Minneapolis and attended Minneapolis South High School. On Dec. 13, 1958, he married Virginia Lee Fernendez and their marriage was blessed with four children. He was employed with Jackson Graves in Minneapolis. In 1978, he moved to Denver, Colo., where he was employed with 7-Eleven as a district supervisor. In 1981, he returned to Minneapolis and his employment with Jackson Graves. He was employed with BRO-TEX, Inc., in Minneapolis for nearly 20 years. He drove for deliveries for many years and recently due to health conditions he operated as shipping manager for BRO-TEX Inc. He enjoyed gambling and the races at Brainerd International Raceway.
Funeral services were held April 2 at O.E. Larson Mortuary in Minneapolis. Interment was held in Woodland Cemetery, New York Mills. Arrangements were provided by the Karvonen & Son Funeral Home of New York Mills.Condolences may be sent online at www.karvonenfuneralhome.com.
Survivors include two daughters, Terry Winkelman of Minneapolis and Sandra (Dino) Canale of Gentry, Ark.; sons, Charles "Butch" Winkelman, Jr. of Minneapolis and Chad Winkelman (Jody Ternes) of Eagan, Minn.; six grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; sister, Marilyn Balck of Minneapolis; brothers, Kenny Winkelman of Fort Worth, Texas, and Duane (Jessie) Winkelman of Zion, Ill.; many nieces, nephews; and other relatives, co-workers and a host of friends.
