Charles Robert Wahl, 73, of rural Fergus Falls, died Saturday, Sept. 19, 2009 at the Fargo VA Medical Center.
He was born Sept. 25, 1935, in Erhard Township, the son of Carl and Lillian (Rippie) Wahl. The family moved to Maplewood Township where he attended country school, District 161. They later moved to Fergus Falls where he attended District 92 and Fergus Falls High School.
On Feb. 1, 1955, he entered the Air Force and was stationed in Illinois and Texas. He was assigned to the electrical maintenance unit, working on their air fleet before his honorable discharge on Oct. 24, 1957.
He married Barbara Elizabeth Gaylor and the couple resided in North Dakota and Fergus Falls.
On July 26, 1979, he married Eloise Berg Colbert in Moorhead and the couple resided on their dairy farm near Fergus Falls. He worked for Anderson Transfer for three years and Allied Van Lines for 26 years until his retirement in 1989. He continued farming along with Eloise and milking their Jersey herd of cattle.
He was a member of Stavanger Lutheran Church and the Dairy Farmers of America. His hobbies included hunting, fishing and snowmobiling.
The service was held Friday, Sept. 25, at Stavanger Lutheran Church in rural Fergus Falls with the Revs. Brad Soenksen and Troy Tysdal officiating. Interment was in Stavanger Lutheran Cemetery. Faith and Hope Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements (faithhopefh.com).
Survivors include his two children, Karen (Gerald) Griffith of Verndale, and Joe Green of Alabama; two stepdaughters, Debbie (Jerry) Fillipi of Emerado and Kim Colbert of Brainerd; nine grandchildren; a stepgrandchild; seven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Colleen Wahl of Fergus Falls and Burdell (Jerome) Tessman of Detroit Lakes; two brothers, Lloyd of Fergus Falls and Rodney (Laurie) of St. Paul; along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; Barbara Gaylor Wahl; his wife Eloise, who died Dec. 25, 2008; a son, Charles Robert Wahl; and a stepson, Greg Colbert.
