Funeral services for Charles Dean Gillings of Wadena were held at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, October 8, 2013, at the Assemblies of God Church in Wadena with Reverend Allen Refsland presiding. Dean passed away at the age of 86 years on Sunday, October 6, 2013, at his home in Wadena.

Dean was born in June, 1927 in South Dakota to Elmer and Belle Gillings. He served his country in the US Navy in WWII. After being honorably discharged, he attended bible college where he met his beautiful bride, Sadie. They were married in 1957.

Dean began cutting meat in Granite Falls in 1958, from 1966 until 1970 in Forest Lake, and in 1970 he moved his family to Wadena and began cutting meat at the Red Owl Store. He loved to spend time with family and friends, and was actively involved in church. He loved to fish and hunt.

Dean was preceded in death by his parents and five brothers. He is survived by his wife Sadie; son Dan (Karen) Gillings; daughter Sonja (Ruben) Montoya; grandchildren Brittney (Lee)Starritt, Nathanial, Chad and Ryan; 5 great grandchildren; step-mother Ann; brothers Alden (Grace), Belvin (Vivien) and Joe; as well as sisters-in-law Deanne and Ruth.

Military Honors were provided by the Elmer Goche Post 3922 Veterans of Foreign Wars of Wadena.

Pallbearers were Bob Wolfenden, Ray Buettner, Bob Hessling, Gary Dahlvang, Harold Sirrila, Bud Bergquist, Mitchell Steffens and Kenny Steffens.

Interment was in the Wadena Cemetery in Wadena.

The family prefers memorials to be made to Lone Tree Camp, PO Box 713, Capiton NM 88316.
