Following a single-vehicle rollover crash June 25 west of Highway 71 in which authorities said alcohol and speed were contributing factors, Todd County Sheriff Pete Mikkelson said that local and state authorities are currently attempting to determine who the driver of the vehicle was, and criminal charges are likely once that person is conclusively identified. The three occupants of the car, all from Wadena, were Adam Johnson, 22, Travis Petro, 22, and Lisa Rudrud, 23.

“I think once we find out who the operator of the vehicle was, there will be some charges filed,” Mikkelson said.

Mikkelson said that generally, methods of determining where occupants of a vehicle were sitting during a crash include analysis of the injuries they sustained and DNA traces in the interior of the car. He said evidence from last Tuesday’s crash is currently being processed by the crime lab at the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA) but it was difficult to say for sure when the Todd County Sheriff’s Office would get the results back.

“I really don’t know how long it’s going to be,” he said.

Mikkelson said that all three occupants had the odor of alcohol on them, and there was evidence of alcohol consumption in the car.

As of Tuesday, no charges had been filed or arrests made in the case, Mikkelson said.

The crash left all three occupants with serious injuries, for which they were treated at Tri-County Health Care (TCHC). They were then transported to St. Cloud Hospital.  As of Wednesday, Johnson was listed in good condition at the hospital, and Petro had been treated and released. No information was available for Rudrud.
