The Mass of Christian Burial for Catherine Mary "Babe" Vorderbruggen of Bluffton will be celebrated at 11:00 AM on Thursday, March 6, 2014 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Bluffton with Fr. Aaron Kuhn, Father Tom Carkhuff and Father Kermit Holl as celebrants. Friends may call at the Johnson - Schuller Chapel in Wadena on Wednesday from 4:00 until 8:00 PM with Christian Mothers rosary service at 5:00 PM and Parish Prayers at 6:00 PM. Visitation continues on Thursday from 9:30 AM until the time of mass at the church. Catherine passed away at the age of 87 on Sunday, March 2, 2014 at the Elders Home in New York Mills with family at her side.

Babe was born to Charles and Philomena "Minnie" (Lemm-Miller) Kupfer on May 1, 1926, in Bluffton, MN, where she attended the St. John the Baptist Catholic School through the eighth grade. On October 11, 1949, she was united in marriage to Claude Vorderbruggen at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. As a dedicated wife, mother and homemaker, she filled her days with caring for her family and enjoyed gardening throughout the years. She taught her family that the greatest lesson in life was "knowing you must have a deep faith in God and practice it by going to church and living a good life". She enjoyed playing cards, loved visiting with friends and spending time with her family. Babe was a member of the VFW Auxiliary, Blufftons Lions Club, Senior Citizens and Christian Mothers.

Babe was preceded in death by her husband, Claude, on January 14, 2001; parents Charles and Minnie; brothers Joe, William, Sylvester, Robert, Leo and Jim Kupfer; sisters Marie Kupfer, Gertrude Klinnert, Helen Weller and Leona Carkhuff.

She is survived by her sons Jim (Marilyn) of Bluffton and Kevin (Mary) of New York Mills; daughters Linda (Dennis) Loween, Donna (Allen) Schmitz and Janice (Scott) Carpenter all of Wadena; 16 grandchildren & 16 great-grandchildren; along with a host of friends.

Pallbearers will be David Loween, Chad Loween, Trent Loween Lance Loween, Cory Vorderbruggen, Kyle Vorderbruggen and Tyler Schmitz.

Burial will be in St. John the Baptist Catholic Cemetery in Bluffton.

Arrangements are with the Schuller-Johnson Chapel in Wadena. (
