Cardinals hand Wolverines two Mid-State losses

The Staples-Motley Cardinals put together 24 hits against Wadena-Deer Creek pitching Friday in a Mid-State Conference sweep.

Bruce Onischuk’s Cardinals broke a 5-5 tie in the opener with a three-run uprising in the 10th to win 8-5.

Quinn Uhlmann went 4-for-6 and Kelsey Zetah went 3-for-4 as the Cards out-hit the Wolverines 15-12. Zetah and Lisa Kossan both scored two runs.

Maddie Hinojos went 3-for-6 to pace the Wolverines. Michaela Lehmkuhl, Morgan Zeise and Madison Barthel all collected two hits. Victoria Witthuhn scored twice.

Kelly Klein fired a one-hitter as the Cardinals won the second game 13-1 in five frames.

The top five hitters in the Cardinals batting order, Zetah, Uhlmann, Mackenzie Holst, Megan Vetsch and Sarah Daly combined for seven runs and seven hits.

Morgan Zeise singled in the fourth for WDC’s lone hit. Sam Manselle walked and scored for WDC in the second.

Autumn Roberts scattered seven WDC hits Thursday as the Eagles topped the Wolverines on their home diamond.

Mckenna Roberts paced the Eagles with three hits in four trips. Autumn Roberts, Rhiana Roberts and LeAnn Flanigan combined for six hits.

Michaela Lehmkuhl went 3-for-3 in the loss. Victoria Witthuhn went 2-for-2 and drove in Lehmkuhl with WDC’s lone run.

Chaz Butz and Emma Maguire pitched four-hitters Tuesday as the Lakers stopped the Wolverines twice in a Mid-State Conference twinbill.

Butz walked three and fanned five in Game 1’s five-inning contest.

Maddy Hinojos and Victoria Witthuhn both went 1-for-3 and scored once in the loss.

Carolyn Kinney, Kyra Vagle and Emily Schlitz combined for nine hits and eight runs. Schlitz hit a three-run homer in the fifth.

Maguire allowed five walks while fanning two as DL won the nightcap in six frames.

Hailey Sonstegard and Llecenia Burnside both had three hits for the Lakers. Burnside jacked a solo shot in the sixth.

Hinojos and Mikaela Nordlund scored runs for WDC. Emily Orsello doubled.
