The funeral service for Byron Hamre of Wadena will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 23, 2013 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Wadena with Pastor Nate Loer presiding. Friends may call on Wednesday at the Johnson-Schuller Chapel in Wadena from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m.. Visitation will resume at the church on Thursday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service. Byron passed away on Monday, May 20, 2013 at Fair Oaks Lodge in Wadena, MN at the age of 84.

Byron Robert Hamre of Wadena, MN was born March 25,1929 in Erskine, MN to Bennie and Mabel Hamre. He graduated from Erskine High School. Prior to serving in the Air Force he worked with the Standard Oil Company in Fargo, ND. He served time in the Air Force 1950-1951.

After the service he was employed as a Standard Oil bulk agent in Kindred, ND. On October 26,1957 he married Shirley Lillquist at Immanuel Lutheran in Wadena, MN. In 1959 they moved to Wadena. He retired from Ferrell Gas.

During retirement he enjoyed working part time with the escort service at the Tri-County Hospital. He enjoyed his afternoon coffee groups and Thursday men's breakfast groups, Immanuel Saturday Men's Bible Study group, deer hunting, sports and being with family and friends.

He is survived by wife Shirley, son Mark (Missy) of Oakdale, daughter Janell (John) Weum of Eden Prairie; brothers Don (Bev), Sam (Clara), Leroy, Bennett (Janet) of Erskine; sisters Marlys (Eivind) Lindseth of Mclntosh and Elaine (Mitchell) Olson of Pelican Rapids; grandchildren Kyle (Chayna) Hamre, Nicole Weum, Meghan (Tom) Esser, and David (Beka) Weum; plus nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by parents Bennie and Mabel and brother Eugene.

Honorary pallbearers will be Immanuel’s Saturday Men’s Bible Study and Immanuel’s Thursday Men’s Breakfast groups. Serving as pallbearers will be Oliver Haugo, Gary Johnson, Roger Lageson, Larry Spenst, Matt Nygren and Chuck Schoberg.

Interment will be in the Wadena Cemetery.

The family has designated the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Wadena for memorial contributions.

Arrangements are with the Johnson-Schuller Chapel in Wadena. (
