Snow still a no show
Some are anxious for white fluffiness to coat the snowless ground this winter, but Wadena city workers are spending time preparing for snowfall and catching up on other projects.
Wadena Wal-Mart to open Jan. 22
Wal-Mart will have a grand opening for its Wadena location on Jan. 22. Nicole Schacher has been named store manager of the new Wal-Mart Supercenter at 100 Juniper Avenue Northwest in Wadena.

Vikings join Twins as potential ex-Minnesotans
Minnesota could lose both its National Football League and Major League Baseball teams.
For weeks, the state has been on a death watch for the Minnesota Twins, after Major League Baseball decided eliminating two teams would make more money for the remaining owners.
Now, a feeling is emerging in the Minnesota Capitol that whatever happens to the Minnesota Twins happens - it is out of politicians' hands. Attention under the Capitol dome has turned to the speculation that football's Vikings could leave the Metrodome - and Minnesota.
Students think pregnancy over
Students at Wadena-Deer Creek High School are reconsidering what it might mean to be parents with Baby Think It Over.
The dolls cry like a real infant until the student presses a key into its back until it stops. This could last anywhere from five minutes to 20 minutes.
The dolls are taken home with the students for two weeks and must be taken wherever the student goes and treated like real infants.

Volunteers distribute ES packages to needy families
Nearly 180 Wadena county area needy families have received useful contributions of clothing, groceries and toys through the 60th annual Empty Stocking program sponsored by the Wadena Pioneer Journal in cooperation with a host of community volunteers.

40, caroling for Krause, receive $735 gifts from the public
More than 40 "carolers for a cause" were out in force Sunday night in support of the Wadena Benevolent Fund and James Krause.
The response by the public who heard students sing familiar Christmas carols was immediate. Carolers were rewarded with over $735 to the Benevolent Fund, it was reported.
Luethmers new National manager
James Luethmers, former manager of the Del Farm Foods at the Crossroad Center in St. Cloud, is new manager of the National Food store in Wadena.
He is a Little Falls high school graduate and more recently four-years manager of Del Farm Foods in St. Cloud.

Another milestone passed, 1951 has been interesting
Another milestone in Wadena history has been passed. The year 1951 has been an eventful one, and as incidents are unfolded, it finds heartaches and sorrows intermingled with happiness, smiles and prosperity. The most talked of incident of the year was the Northern Pacific freight train wreck the last Sunday in October.

As long as we can comprehend that simplicity, the true meaning of our Christmas observance, the warmth of genuine Yuletide spirit - we also can perpetuate this greatest-of-all holiday at its glorious best. Perhaps we can even see what's under the glittering Christmas wrapping - "Peace on Earth, Good Will Toward Men." In these troubled times, a clear view of the contents is more essential than ever. With an unwavering eye on the fundamental precept of Christmas, we must evaluate the past and dedicate the future. The vision can't be fuzzy: the hope can't be feeble.
