Brenda Lee Berndt, 47, of Staples, formerly of the Bertha-Hewitt area, passed away at her home on Sunday, May 6, 2007.
She was born Oct. 31, 1959, at Onamia, Minn., to Virginia Anderson. She spent much of her youth with her uncle, Elmer, and aunt, Marion Lease. She married Ronnie Lee Berndt on Oct. 27, 1979, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Bertha.
She enjoyed being outdoors. She liked to walk with her family, camp, have barbecues and spend time gardening. She liked playing just about any card game, doing puzzles and playing bingo. But above all she was a loving mother and cared for all children.
Funeral services were held Friday, May 11, at the Church of the Nazarene in Hewitt with the Rev. Johannes Marsland and the Rev. Charles Chaffin presiding. Honorary pallbearers were Virgil, Wayne and Douglas Berndt, Melissa and Justin Koski, Steve Sherman, Gerald Berndt, Lori Oberg, Carla Berndt and Arieal Stoecker.
Pallbearers were Joe Oberg, Bobby Berndt, Robert Berndt, Wayne Berndt, Ed Scepurek and Sam Scepurek.
Interment was in the Woodman Cemetery at Clarissa. Arrangements were with the Domian-Anderson Funeral Home in Bertha.
Survivors include her husband, Ronnie; mother, Virginia Anderson of Circle Pines, Minn.; children, Virgil (Cindy) of Stetsonville, Wis., Wayne (Jacalyn) of Elk River, Minn., Melissa (Justin) Koski of Wadena and Douglas of Staples; five grandchildren; and sister, Dorothy Thomas of Circle Pines. She is also survived by Ronnie's brothers and sisters, Delores Yorek, Gary Berndt, Iva Tollegson, Merlin Berndt, Gerald Berndt, Linda Rudrud, Gale Berndt, Robert Berndt, Debra Berndt, Iona Wood and Carla Berndt; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her stepfather, Clayton Hoverson; uncle and aunt, Elmer and Marion Lease; Ronnie's parents, Edwin and Myrtle Berndt; nephew, Jason Rudrud; brothers-in-law, Ricky Ray Berndt, Leo Yorek, and Bruce Wood; and sister-in-law, Daisey Berndt.
