Braves claim Park Region win at Verndale

A second half blitz carried the Menahga Braves to a 65-49 Park Region Conference victory over the Pirates Tuesday on the Verndale court.

The Pirates led 29-25 at the half but the Braves dominated the second half scoring 40-20.

Nine Menahga players contributed to the scoring with Tarah Cleveland leading the pack with 18, Amelia Pho also hit double figures with 12 points.

The Pirates had three players in double figures with Teresa Moenkedick scoring 14 and Lizzy Yungbauer and Elizabeth Johnson both canning 12.

The Pirates hit on eight of their 10 free throws but shot just 23 percent from the field.

Shauna Maurer canned 16 points and Jackie White added 15 as the Huskies edged the Pirates in a Park Region Conference tilt.

White had 14 of her team's 30 points in the second half.

Verndale's Teresa Moenkedick led all scorers with 20 points.

"Our girls continue to improve and play aggressively," Verndale head coach Art Schluttner said. "They are keeping the games competitive and have chances to win."
