Robert R. "Bob" Thurston, 74, of Dent, died Monday, Nov. 23, 2009, at the Frazee Care Center in Frazee.
Bob was born Sept. 23, 1935, in Aldrich, the son of Lenard and Marjorie (Waln) Thurston. On July 9, 1986, he was united in marriage to Carol Pilgrim in Dent. Bob was a truck driver starting at a very young age, driving dump trucks for his uncle and grandfather. He also hauled grain in Minnesota and North Dakota. He leased his truck out to Ellsworth Freight Lines, Austin, Minn., for a couple of years. Bob also worked for Fred Bauck in the lumber yard in Dent, and did the grave work for Schoeneberger Funeral Home, Perham, starting in 1997 until he retired in 2006. Bob enjoyed hunting, and fishing and watching NASCAR and horse racing on TV.
A memorial service was held Friday, Nov. 27, at Schoeneberger Funeral Home, Perham, with the Rev. Dan Abraham officiating. Schoeneberger Funeral Home, Perham, was in charge of the arrangements ((218) 346-5175). Online tributes may be posted on www.schoenebergerfuneralhome.com.
Survivors include his wife, Carol, Dent; three daughters, Tammy (Denny) Neisius, Verndale, Ronda (Jack) Kern, Sebeka, and Sherrie (Steve) Lorentz, Elk River, Minn.; two stepsons, Randy (Cim) Melbye, Dent, and Ricky (Cheryl) Melbye, Moorhead; eight grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; five step-grandchildren; and one step-great-grandson.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
