Board votes to rehire Patterson
The Wadena-Deer Creek (WDC) school board voted to rehire secondary teacher Jay Patterson on Jan. 22 at a Step 7 salary.
Patterson would like to retire in February.
The 4-1 vote in favor of giving Patterson Step 7 pay came on the heels of a school board vote to rehire Patterson under Step 15, the highest step rate at WDC. The Step 15 motion failed by a 4-2 vote.
Teachers who seek rehiring by a district after retiring are eligible to draw Teacher Retirement Association benefits along with their salary from a school district. Patterson has been teaching in District 2155 for 33 years. He is also very active in directing school plays.
If Patterson opts to take the board's offer, he would continue to teach the same number of classes he does at the present time.
