Board approves two extracurricular events for 2012-2013 school year

Wadena-Deer Creek band and choir members have a trip to Washington, D.C. in their future.

The District 2155 school board gave WDC Band Director Lisa Weniger and Choir Director Mike Ortmann approval Monday night to take their 2012-2013 musicians to the nation's capitol next April.

Weniger and Ortmann will have additional parents to help chaperon the trip which will leave Wadena April 1 and return April 6. The cost per person will be $625.

The WDC band and choir groups last made a trip to Washington, D.C. in 2009.

The board also gave the Wadena VFW post permission to hold a ceremony before the start of the 2012-2013 school year to commemorate the opening of the new secondary school. The first day of school will be Sept. 4.
