Blue Devils suffer 5-2 loss to Luverne

Makayla Sterrett came up with a hat trick Jan. 26 as Luverne defeated Long Prairie-Grey Eagle/Wadena-Deer Creek 5-2 at the Todd County Expo Arena in Long Prairie.

The Cardinals outshot the Blue Devils 17-0 in the first period en route to a 35-13 shots on goal advantage.

Halley Maas broke up a shutout bid in the second period with a power play goal at the 13:38 mark. Samantha Killian and Kylee Damm earned assists.

Killian scored a goal of her own at the 12:48 mark of the third period to cap the game scoring for both teams. Maas and Zara Einerwold assisted on the goal.

The loss dropped the Blue Devils to 7-16 on the season.

Section 6A teams will be seeded Wednesday with quarterfinal games beginning 7 p.m. Saturday.

Rachel Prozinski iced four goals Jan. 25 as the Stars outshot the Blue Devils 42-20.

Brooke Umland put the Blue Devils into a 1-1 tie early in the first period when she scored a power play goal at the 2:16 mark. Samantha Killian and Halley Maas earned assists.

The Stars then went on the first of two four-goal scoring sprees. Zara Einerwold's goal at 13:40 of the second period stopped the run. Killian was credited with her second assist.

LPGE/WDC's Katelyn Peters was unassisted in scoring the last goal of the second period at 14:22. The goal cut River Lakes' lead to 6-3.

The Stars cut loose in the final period with Prozinski scoring twice and Shelby Teal and Elle Anderson both scoring their second goals. The Stars dominated the shots on goal 15-3.
