Blue Devils gain split in Willmar Tournament

George Behl's Long Prairie-Grey Eagle/Wadena-Deer Creek Blue Devils topped Morris-Benson for the second time this season Saturday to gain a split in the Willmar Tournament.

Angela Hanson faced just 10 shots as the Blue Devils blanked the Storm 2-0 and evened their season mark at 4-4. The Blue Devils triumphed 6-3 in the first meeting of the two teams Nov. 12.

Abigail Ecker put the Blue Devils on the board at 14:10 of the first period with an assist from Ashley Helseth.

After a scoreless second period the Blue Devils struck again at the 12:49 mark of the third period. McKayla Woods found the net with McKenzie Christianson and Kylee Damm earning assists.

The Blue Devils will host Marshall Senior at noon Saturday in Long Prairie.

Chloe Summerfield iced two goals and two assists as the Packers downed the Blue Devils Friday night in the Willmar Tournament.

Allison Hoban kept the Blue Devils off the scoreboard until the third period when Zara Einerwold found the net at the 8:25 mark. Ashley Helseth was credited with the assist.

Also scoring goals for Austin were Myia Hoium and Madison Overby.

Angela Hanson kicked out 40 shots in the loss. Allison Hoban stopped 23 of 25 shots by the Blue Devils.

"The Austin game was a good competitive game and we had our chances," Behl said.
