Blazers beat Angels, earn top seed

The Bertha Blazers completed a three-game sweep of the Hi-10 league playoffs Sunday with a 6-0 home victory over the Detroit Lakes Angels.

DL pitcher Mason Swegarden kept the Blazers off the board in the first four innings, but Bertha batters blew up against his replacement Brian Buhr. The Blazers rally started with a two-run blast by Patrick Riewer in the bottom of the sixth. By the end of inning, the team had scored six runs off of seven hits.

Bertha held DL to just two hits throughout the game. Pitchers Jordan and Patrick Riewer combined for 14 strikeouts.

"Our pitching really does carry us," said Blazers coach Steve Riewer, noting the team only allowed one run during the entire three game playoffs.

Bertha, which earned the top seed in the Hi-10 league, will head to Perham to take on the Carlos Cougers at 8 p.m. Friday in the opening round of the Region 14C tournament. DL, the second seed, will face the Sebeka Stingers at 8 p.m. Friday in Dent.
