BHV wrestlers capture ninth place at Cass Lake tournament
The Bertha-Hewitt-Verndale wrestlers traveled north to Cass Lake to participate in a 33 team individual tournament Dec. 20-21. Included were nine teams and 48 individuals ranked by the Guillotine Magazine.
The Raiders wrestled well with every individual winning at least one match and four individuals placing in the top six. Dillon Card came home with his second Cass Lake Championship winning the 220 pound weight class. Dillon defeated Taylor Carlson of United North Central 11-3. Carlson was ranked second by Guillotine Magazine at 220 pounds.
Other place winners were Anthony Kern (106) placed third, Justin Gordon (120) placed sixth, and Dalton Baker (285) placed sixth. Another exciting match was at 195 pound, when John French took on Hunter Fick of West Central Area. Hunter is ranked 10th at 195 in Class A. John came away with a well wrestled 7-6 victory.
The Raiders placed ninth out of the 33 schools with an overall score of 105.
The next competition for the Raiders will be at Belgrade on Friday, Jan. 3. Wrestling starts at 3:30 p.m. On Tuesday, Jan. 7, the team travels to New York Mills for a conference dual meet.
