BHV Legion squad earn split with Blackduck
Steve Riewer's Bertha-Hewitt/Verndale Legion crew managed to rally from a 6-0 first inning deficit Monday to gain a split of their twinbill with Blackduck.
A 17-hit barrage carried Blackduck to a convincing 13-4 win in Game 1. Five Blackduck players had multi-hit games.
BHV starter Alex Copa was shelled in his two innings of work. Ethan Korfe worked the last five frames.
Mitchell Blaha and Zach A. Johnson came up with the only two safeties for BHV.
Korfe, Blaha, Johnson and John French scored BHV's four runs.
Travis Eckel scored the winning run in the bottom of the third as BHV fought back to nip Blackduck in Game 2.
BHV trailed by six after one inning of play but out-scored Blackduck 11-4 the rest of the way.
Alex Copa led off the bottom of the third with a walk and C.J. Baumgartner drew a free pass on four straight balls. Korfe then singled in Copa. A sacrifice fly by Blaha brought in Baumgartner. After a groundout by Johnson, Eckel laced an RBI-single and Jordan Fretham doubled in Eckel with the winning run,
Eckel pitched one inning of relief to gain the win.
