BHV grapplers place eighth in state team tournament
Nick Bennett, Dillon Card and Andrew Bounds went 4-0 Saturday as the Bertha-Hewitt/Verndale freshman team placed eighth in the Minnesota Wrestling Coaches Association team tournament at Hastings.
The Raiders topped New Prague 48-27 after earning a first round bye but they fell to eventual champ Foley 59-15. The Raiders suffered a 45-39 loss to Hutchinson/Buffalo Lake-Hector and fell to Coon Rapids 40-36.
Bennett and Bounds pinned all four of their opponents at 152 and 171.
Card scored one pin against his 160-pound opponents. Anthony Kern (95), Justin Gordon (100), Hayden Truax (130), Dakota Finck (140) and Dalton Baker (heavyweight) all finished 2-2 for the Raiders and racked up a total of nine pins.
The individual state tournament will be held Feb. 5 in Champlin Park.
BHV qualifiers include Truax, Finck, Bennett, Card, Bounds, Baker and John French (189).
Five Class 3A and five Class 2A schools joined the 14 Class A clubs participating in the tournament.
