Bertha stops Shockers in playoffs
Ryan Denny held the Wadena-Deer Creek Shockers to just four hits Saturday and helped the Bertha Blazers to a 4-3 victory in Region 14C play.
The loss finished the season for the Shockers and propelled the Blazers into the region championship game where they clubbed Carlos 11-3.
The Shockers jumped out to 1-0 lead in the top of the first when Jordan Wohlwend was hit by a pitch and scored on a sacrifice bunt by Jamie Nordlund.
The Blazers came back with a pair of runs in the bottom of the first as Marcus Riewer doubled, Michael Riewer singled and Pat Riewer doubled.
The Shockers tied the game in the top of the fifth as Casey Johnson walked and scored on a single by Seth Hamman.

The Blazers scored their final run in the seventh to take a 4-2 lead. Carl Amundson reached on a base and scored on a double by Mike Riewer.
The Shockers scored the game's final run in the eighth when Jayme George singled, moved up on a groundout by Nordlund and scored on a single by Detroit Lakes draftee Taylor Fuhs. Travis George reached on a fielder's choice that eliminated Fuhs and Bluffton draftee Kyle Dykhoff grounded out to end the threat.
Dykhoff pitched seven innings for the Shockers, gave up 11 hits and two walks while fanning three. Travis George pitched the final inning for the Shockers.
Denny went 3-for-4 at the plate for the Blazers.
