Benefit for tornado recovery slated April 3 in Parkers Prairie Event Center
Eight months after devastating tornadoes hit areas of Otter Tail and Wadena Counties, the recovery continues.
As of March 16, the Wadena-Otter Tail Long Term Recovery committee has raised $389,972, of which $332,525 has been distributed ($147,125 in Otter Tail County and $185,400 in Wadena County). These funds have been used to help tornado victims with a variety of needs, such as housing, utilities, rent, vehicle repair and living expenses. Construction or repair has been performed on 19 homes and numerous clean-up sites.
But much more still needs to be done. The committee still has 144 active cases totaling $1,187,000 in unmet needs -- 40 cases in Otter Tail County totaling $647,898 and 104 cases in Wadena County totaling $539,102. Fifty-nine families still need reconstruction and clean-up assistance.
To help meet some of these needs, the Parkers Prairie Ministerium is sponsoring a benefit at the Prairie Event Center on April 3 from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Pancakes and sausages will be served, with a free will offering for tornado recovery. There will also be a silent auction and bake sale.
