Benefit for Robert "Bob" Gamache on Sept. 30
A benefit spaghetti dinner and silent auction will be held for Bob Gamache of Clarissa on Sept. 30, 2011 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the American Legion in Long Prairie. Bids for the silent auction will be accepted until 7 p.m.
Bob was hospitalized Feb. 24, 2011 and was diagnosed with pneumonia. Within the next month he was hospitalized another two times and eventually was taken by ambulance to the ICU at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester.
In the two plus months he was there, he endured multiple surgeries from a bacteria called C-diff which eventually lead to the removal of his large intestine and getting an ileostomy bag. He ended up with a trach, found that he had MRSA (staph infection) and his kidneys and liver shut down. This led to him being on continuous dialysis.
Finally, after making the journey that, according to the Mayo Clinic, maybe one percent of their patients survive, Bob has been transported to the Staples Hospital where he has begun the long road through physical rehab and to recovery.
Some of Gamache's friends, are putting together a benefit to help ease some of the financial burdens brought on from his hospitalization.
Bob is the husband of Barb, who is the daughter of Frank and Betty Pesta, and stepfather to Cheryl (David) Holmquist of Clarissa and Missy Lewis of Sacramento, Calif.
