Benefit planned for Dec. 9
We are very happy to announce that the Cyber Friends and Knitters are sponsoring a benefit this year for Cyber Youth and the Wadena City Library. The benefit will be from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 9, at the Cyber Café. There will be fresh brewed coffee and goodies served all day. A hot turkey sandwich lunch will be served from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. (A free will offering will be accepted.) There will be a silent auction, raffle and gifts for sale that will feature hand-knit items and a whole lot more.
A special thank you to the Cyber Friends and Knitters for including the library as a co-recipient this year for their holiday benefit. Your work is greatly appreciated!
(The two books reviewed below were received as part of the Legacy Grant.)
"The Case of Greedy Lawyers" - Carl Brookins
Sean NMI Sean is a private detective in Minneapolis. A mysterious visit from a woman starts a ball rolling that grows bigger and more dangerous as it rolls along city streets and alleys. The almost client says she was sent by a law firm where Sean is not exactly a welcome face. Who would have sent her? Before he can find out, the lady is found dead. True to traditional detective novels she was found with little else-but had Sean's business card with her. Now the P.I. feels a responsibility to find out whom she really is, who killed her, and why she was sent to him in the first place.
"Sweet Poison" - Ellen Hart
In the juicy 16th Jane Lawless mystery (after 2007's "The Mortal Groove"), the lesbian restaurateur worries about her father Ray's upcoming bid for governor of Minnesota. Corey Hodge, a convicted rapist Ray once defended in court, has just been released from prison. Nursing a grudge, he volunteers at Ray's campaign headquarters until his identity is exposed. Life gets more intense after Corey becomes a suspect in the murder of one of Ray's top volunteers, Charity Miller. Charity was being stalked by her ex-boyfriend, who may have committed a hate crime against a gay United Methodist minister involved with a male campaign worker. Also causing Jane concern is the unexpected return from Africa of her ex-lover, Dr. Julia Martinsen. Julia plots to reignite her relationship with Jane, who's involved in a troubled long-distance relationship with Kenzie, a Nebraska professor. Hart fans will enjoy the many twists, both personal and criminal.
