Bears topple Pirates 13-3
Autumn Aeling scattered four hits over five innings as the Bertha-Hewitt Bears toppled Verndale 13-3 Tuesday in Park Region Conference fastpitch play.
Aeling also had a big day at the plate going 2-for-3, driving in four runs and scoring once. Brooke Selvey came up with two hits in three trips, scored three times and drove in three runs.
Jordyn Glenz, Sydney Weniger, Kirstin Korfe and Jackie Swenson collected hits for Verndale.

Lead-off hitter Morgan Demars drove in four runs and No. 2 hitter Elizabeth Downie drove in three as the Tigers beat the Pirates Friday in a six-inning game.
Desirae Sonestahl, Megan Felhouse and Lexi Hanson were trouble for Verndale at the bottom of the Pine River-Backus lineup as they combined for six RBIs.
Brooke Holweg doubled and drove in two runs for the Pirates.
Autumn Ackerman walked seven but still chalked up the pitching win. Sarah Moenkedick walked 14 in taking the loss.

Dan Johnson's Pirates snapped an eight-game losing streak Thursday by beating the Comets in a five-inning game.
Jackie Swenson went 2-for-2, scored twice and drove in four runs to lead the Pirates. Sarah Moenkedick also had a big game going 3-for-4 and scoring twice. Jordy Schluttner went 0-for-3 at the plate but scored three runs and drove in two. Tori Kern also scored three times and drove in two.
Katie Thorkildsen drove in three runs for the Comets while Gracia Larson and Brittany Christenson each drove in two.
Kirstin Korfe pitched all five for the Pirates to record Verndale's first victory since April 20.
