A week that began with an injury ended in triumph for Nicole Bart Saturday as the Verndale ace tossed a no-hitter in an 8-0 victory over Lake Park-Audubon.

Bart fanned 10 in throwing her second career no-hitter. She backed up her superb pitching with two hits and one RBI. Brittany Kern and Crystal Haskin also had two hits in the victory.

The victory gave the Pirates a final regular season record of 16-4.

"This was probably the best game we have played this year," Verndale Skipper Tim Seaton said.

Nicole Bart was struck in the face by a line drive in the first inning last Tuesday and the Pirates never recovered from losing their ace starter.

The Bulldogs pounced on their opportunity when Bart left the game, scoring four times in the first and twice in the second.

OTC's Carley Nelson helped her pitching cause by going 2-for-3. Aann Bjorklund also went 2-for-3.

Nelson fanned nine and held the Pirates to just two hits.

Brittany Kern brought in two runs for Verndale with a single in the bottom of the first.
