Barbara Ann Windel, 67, of New York Mills, passed away Sept. 30, 2009, at her home, surrounded by her family and Hospice care.
Barb was born Jan. 28, 1942, in Wahpeton, N.D., to Edwin and Viola (Lick) Milbrandt. Barb graduated from the New York Mills High School with the class of 1960. In 1962, she married Gerald Dean Windel. Together they made their home in New York Mills and raised three children. Barb was devoted to her family and was a very loving, caring and kind mother, grandmother, wife and a friend to all. She will be dearly missed.
Memorial services were held Saturday, Oct. 3, at Trinity Lutheran Church in New York Mills with the Rev. Jon T. Haakana officiating. The hymns were sung by the congregation, accompanied by Janell Brakel. The honorary pallbearers were DeeDee Windel, Betty Poe, Howard and Lou Legried, Nancy Karvonen, Irene Grewing, Helen Sundeen, Ruth Koehler, Ruth DeFrance and Lorie Schumacher. Survivors include her husband, Gerald Windel of New York Mills; sons, Dean Windel of Phoenix, Ariz., Trent Windel of New York Mills, and Trevor (Shelly) Windel of St. Michael; four grandchildren, Jorday, Jake, Ella, and Ava; sister, Betty (John) Sundby of Brainerd; two brothers, Duane (Linda) Milbrandt of New York Mills and Gary (Peggy) Milbrandt of Eveleth; many other relatives; and a host of friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two sons, Todd and Troy.
