Bail set for Verndale man accused of stealing car

After being refused a ride to the Twin Cities, a Verndale man stole the vehicle and drove himself, Wadena County District Court records said.

Joseph Gregory Mench, 18, was charged March 16 with theft -- take/drive motor vehicle with no owner consent. According to court documents, Mench approached a man at a local business and asked him for a ride to "the Cities," but the driver of the car refused. The driver left the business with other people and when he came back to get the car, it was gone from the parking spot where it was left. Mench was allegedly found in St. Paul in possession of the vehicle, where he was arrested. The incident happened March 12.

Bond was set at $30,000 with no conditions, $10,000 bond with conditions or $1,000 cash bail with

conditions.
