Artists receive awards in annual Regional Art Show at the Cultural Center in New York Mills
Fifteen artists from the region are participating in this year's annual Regional Art Exhibit at the Cultural Center in New York Mills. The show will continue on display at the Center through July 5. Gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturdays. Admission to the gallery is always free.
At the artists' reception on Saturday, June 21, merit awards were made in five categories to participating artists and an audience choice award was made at the end of the show. Virginia Marr of Fargo received an award for her oil painting of her granddaughter Ella Johnson kissing a fish before releasing it.
Also receiving an award was Tim Cassidy of New York Mills for his steel sculptures Uplift and Fossil. Jon Solinger of Pelican Rapids received a merit award for his digitally altered land and waterscapes and Pam Collins of Staples was awarded for her multimedia cloth mosaics inspired by her recent visit to Ireland.
Rush Lake resident Shirley Daulton won a merit award for her porcelain monoprint 2 Fish. The annual regional show is held each summer at the gallery of the Cultural Center. All artists are encouraged to submit work for the 2015 show and details will be posted on the Cultural Center website, www.kulcher.org.
