Ashby quarterback Blake Ohren ran for 195 yards and one TD while passing for six more as the Arrows ambushed Mike Mahlen's Verndale Pirates 62-26 Wednesday in a wild regular season finale at Ashby.

Both teams got off to a fast start with three TDs hitting the scoreboard before the 11-minute mark of the first quarter. The Arrows led 16-12 after one quarter and then exploded for 30 points in the second quarter to take a 46-20 lead into the half.

Andy Bounds returned a short kick 53 yards for Verndale's first score and Colton Moyer went in from the 11 for the second. The Arrows scored the next three TDs before Dallas Ehrmantraut and Dillon Card pulled off a 31-yard aerial beauty for Verndale. Ehrmantraut capped Verndale's scoring in the third quarter with the game's longest gainer - an 84-yard kickoff return.

Jon Quernemoen and Tanner Langlie both grabbed two TD passes for the Arrows. Langlie led the Arrows with five catches for 69 yards but Quernemoen had four of Ashby's eight touchdowns.

Bounds logged 60 rushing yards on 12 carries and Moyer added 46 on 11 attempts. Kory Stave caught four passes for 45 yards.

The Pirates will take a 3-5 record into the Section 4, Class Nine-man playoffs Tuesday. No. 7 Verndale travels to home field of No. 2 Wheaton for a 7 p.m. game. No. 1 Eagle Valley will host No. 8 Bertha-Hewitt, No. 4 Isle will entertain No. 5 Ashby and No. 3 Onamia hosts No. 6 Brandon-Evansville in the other three quarterfinal games Tuesday night.

Eagle Valley 28, Verndale 0

Tyler Oftedahl was Verndale's biggest headache Friday night as the Eagle Valley Rebels cruised to a 28-0 Pheasant North victory over the Pirates at Mahlen Field.

Oftedahl ran for Eagle Valley's first TD and then threw touchdown passes of 47, 68 and four yards to Jerod Nelson, Tate Benning and Derek Meyer. Oftedahl finished the night with 281 passing yards as he connected on 15 of his 29 attempts.

Andy Bounds was the big gainer for the Pirates picking up 104 yards on 15 carries.

Bounds made 19 stops for the Pirates while James Kveton made 12 and Colton Moyer recorded 11.

Jacob Schauer had 99 yards on 31 carries for the Rebels and caught three passes for 50 yards. Nelson led Eagle Valley in passing yardage gaining 71 on three catches.

The Pirates were shut out for the first time this season and saw their season mark drop to 3-4. The unbeaten Rebels pushed their record to 7-0.
