Arnold Tumberg

Arnold Stanley Tumberg, 82, of New York Mills, passed away Sept. 24, 2009, at Perham Memorial Hospital in Perham.

Arnold was born Dec. 20, 1926, at home in rural New York Mills. His parents were the late Hjalmer and Ida Gustava (Fiskari) Tumberg. Arnold grew up on the family farm. He graduated from New York Mills High School with the class of 1944. Arnold served in the Army from 1945-46. He was stationed in Germany. Arnold was united in marriage to Patricia Carol Hentila on July 14, 1951 at the Apostolic Lutheran Church in New York Mills. Arnold and Pat made their home in rural Deer Creek. He was employed at the Security State Bank from 1948 to 1966. On April 12, 1952, they moved to their farm in Deer Creek Township, rural New York Mills. Arnold retired in 1994. He was a board member for the bank, school and Elders' Home. Arnold enjoyed deer hunting, and playing Sunday baseball with his family. He was an avid sports fan, and loved watching the Vikings and Twins. He also loved attending his grandchildren's sporting events. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.

Funeral services were held Monday, Sept. 28, with the Rev. Don Salo officiating. The music was provided by Todd Tumberg. The pallbearers were his grandchildren: Stacey Larson, Kyle Tumberg, Tyler Tumberg, Sam Tumberg, Dillan Page and Toby Page. Honorary pallbearers were his remaining grandchildren: Scott Larson, Lindsey Gendke, Hilary Tumberg, Erik Tumberg, Travis Tumberg, Miranda Tumberg, Damon Tumberg, Cole Tumberg, TJ Rheault and Melanie Noonan. Military honors were provided by the Charles D. Center VFW Post 3289 of New York Mills. Arnold was laid to rest in Woodland Cemetery, New York Mills.

Survivors include his wife, Patricia of New York Mills; daughters, Kathy (Terry) Rheault of Fargo, N.D., and Ilene Pinske of Alexandria; sons, Daryl Tumberg of New York Mills, David (Lori) Tumberg of New York Mills, Danny (Cheri) Tumberg of New York Mills, and Darin (Gwen) Tumberg of New York Mills; 16 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren: Isaac Page, Dustyn Larson, Emma Barthel, Rebecca Tumberg, Jovie Larson, Julian Rheault and Kelsey Rheault; siblings, Andy (Janet) Tumberg of New York Mills, Cliff (Ann) Tumberg of New York Mills, Jimmy (Nancy) Tumberg of New York Mills, Martin (Helen) Mursu of New York Mills, Evelyn Tervo of New York Mills, and Earl (Julia) Tumberg of New York Mills; many other relatives; and a host of friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; granddaughter, Jamae; brothers and sisters: two brothers and one sister died in infancy; Robert and Gordon Tumberg died in 1954; and Howard Tumberg died in 1981.
