Tri-County Health Care Foundation awarded six $1,000 scholarships in May to area 2012 high school graduates pursuing a health care career, a press release sent to the Pioneer Journal said. This year's recipients are:

Jenna Esala, who is a New York Mills High School graduate planning to attend Minnesota State University-Moorhead to pursue a speech/language/hearing sciences degree, is the daughter of Gregory and Adele Esala.

Elissa Hannu, daughter of Dennis and Miriam Hannu, is a Sebeka High School graduate who plans on attending Central Lakes College-Brainerd to pursue a nursing degree.

Stacy Spaeth, a Henning High School graduate, plans to attend Minnesota State Community and Technical College in Wadena to purse a nursing degree. She is the daughter of Jody and Robert Lohse.

Wadena-Deer Creek High School graduate Breanna Speed plans on attending North Dakota State College of Science in Wahpeton to pursue a degree in dental hygiene. She is the daughter of Steve and Sandy Speed.

Alex Ukkelberg, son of Ross and Theresa Ukkelberg, is a Battle Lake High School graduate who will attend St. John's University in Collegeville to pursue a degree in pre-physical therapy.

Planning to attend North Dakota State University in Fargo for a degree in pharmaceutical sciences is Kathryn VanDenheuvel, a Bertha-Hewitt High School graduate. She is the daughter of Russell and Nancy VanDenheuvel.

The Tri-County Health Care Foundation High School Scholarship was established to encourage and promote qualified individuals from the service area to pursue a health care career. Recipients are selected using a blind-selection process based on grade-point average and prior experience in a health-related program. Participants must also be a high school senior in Tri-County Health Care's service area.
