Area students awarded TCHC Foundation scholarships

Tri-County Health Care Foundation awarded six $1,000 scholarships to area 2014 high school graduates pursuing a healthcare career. This year's recipients are:

• Callan Chaffin — Bertha-Hewitt High School graduate plans to attend Bemidji State University to purse a nursing degree. She is the daughter of Dave and Carolyn Chaffin.

• Paige Hartman — Wadena-Deer Creek High School graduate plans to attend the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities to pursue a pre-medicine degree. She is the daughter of Bill and Debra Hartman.

• Haylea Kern — Verndale High School graduate plans to attend the University of Jamestown, in North Dakota, to pursue a pre-pharmacy degree. She is the daughter of Jack and Ronda Kern.

• Shelby Pulju — Sebeka High School graduate plans to attend the University of Jamestown, in North Dakota, to pursue a nursing degree. She is the daughter of David and Brook Pulju.

• Abby Salo — New York Mills High School graduate plans to attend the University of North Dakota to pursue a nursing degree. She is the daughter of Gary and Kathleen Salo.

• Not pictured: Andrew Smith — Henning High School graduate plans to attend Northwestern University, in St. Paul, to pursue a nursing degree. He is the son of Grant and Laura Smith.

The Tri-County Health Care Foundation High School Scholarship was established to encourage and promote qualified individuals from the service area to pursue a healthcare career. Recipients are selected using a blind-selection process based on grade-point average, prior experience in a health-related program and they must be a high school senior in Tri-County Health Care's service area.

The Tri-County Health Care Foundation is a private charity established in 1994 to attract and administer charitable funds for the benefit of the communities and surrounding areas served by Tri-County Health Care.
