Funeral services for Alvin Amberg were held March 2, 2013 at Apostolic Lutheran Church in New York Mills, with Pastor Andrew Tumberg officiating.

On Feb. 24, 2013, Alvin, 74, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his loving family and the care of Lakeland Hospice.

Alvin Otto Amberg was born July 13, 1938, in Leaf Lake Township, Ottertail County, to the late Oscar and Signe (Fiskari) Amberg. He graduated from the New York Mills High School with the Class of 1957.

On July 2, 1960, Alvin was united in marriage with Louise Jetenberg at Apostolic Lutheran Church in New York Mills.

Alvin drove a semi-truck for Cenex for 27 years, was employed at Lund's for 13 years and most recently at Pine Breeze, Inc. part time driving semi-truck.

Alvin and Louise traveled extensively, having been in every state plus the countries of Chile, Guatemala, Norway, Sweden and Finland.

He loved the yearly family fishing and camping trips. Also, he served on the Apostolic Lutheran Church Board for 30 years as well as on the Elders' Home Board.

Preceding Alvin in death were his parents; brother, Ray Amberg; sister, Mildred Matson; and sister-in-law, Ardell (Brasel) Amberg.

Alvin is survived by his wife of 52 years, Louise Amberg of New York Mills; daughters, Debra (Pablo) Salguero of Maple Grove, Barbara (Gordy) Lund of Fergus Falls, Sherry (Jeff) Tappe of Princeton and Sarah Roberts of Cold Spring; eight grandchildren; as well as many other relatives and a host of friends.

The hymns were sung by the congregation, accompanied by Janet Tumberg. Special music was provided by Bob Tumberg, Jayne Talo and T.C. Morsch.

Pallbearers were Alex Lund, Andy Tappe, Jerome Mauro, Rylee Roberts, Lucas Salguero and Sammy Salguero.

Honorary pallbearers were Hayden Roberts, Jenna Lund, Jessica Mauro and Bethany Lund.

Alvin was laid to rest at Woodland Cemetery in New York Mills. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.
