Aldrich man faces three sex crimes
A 43-year-old man from Aldrich was arrested and charged with three counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct involving a victim under 13.
On June 14, law enforcement agencies were called to a residence to investigate a possible assault with a weapon. The man, later identified as Mark Lee Wonders, had left the house with a .270 caliber rifle by the time investigators arrived, court documents said.
They eventually caught up with him and he was taken into custody with the gun safely in a camper, the court complaint said. Wonders said he was distraught over the revelation that he had been sexually abusing a girl since she was 5 or 6 years old, and that the abuse had been going on for about five years.
According to court documents, Wonders started talking about the details of the crime before he had been Mirandized, but after he was read his rights he told the investigator to "go ahead" and "ask the questions." He said he didn't need a lawyer because he needed to get well and a lawyer would just make him lie.
The charges were filed June 17 and Wonders will next appear in an omnibus hearing scheduled for July 20.
