Albert Henry Eckhoff, 86, of Henning, died Monday, Sept. 14, 2009, at Tri-County Hospital in Wadena.

He was born Nov. 10, 1922, in rural Henning at the family farm where his grandson, Keith, and his family are now continuing the farming tradition. His parents were Claus and Bena (Klever) Eckhoff. He was a lifelong member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Henning where he was baptized, confirmed and married to his wife, Charlotte. He and Charlotte Wilma Mashek were married Nov. 7, 1945. They had three children: Carol, Gary, and Susan. He was a dairy and grain farmer until his retirement. He enjoyed playing cards, watching TV game shows and watching his grandchildren play and grow.

Funeral services were held Friday, Sept. 18, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Henning with the Rev. Randy Maland officiating. Honorary pallbearers were Tom Nygaard, Keith Eckhoff, and Andy Eckhoff. Active pallbearers were Doug Eckhoff, Rodney Eckhoff, Wayne Pieper, Donald Fluto, Duane Evavold and Steven Dreyer. Interment was in St. Paul's Cemetery at Henning. The Belmont Funeral Home in Henning (www.belmontfuneral.com) was in charge of arrangements.

Survivors include his daughters, Carol (Gene) Nygaard, Erhard, and Susan (Jim) Peterson, Fergus Falls; a son, Gary (JoAnn) Eckhoff, Henning; a brother, Raymond (Betty) Eckhoff, Brooklyn Center, Minn.; and sisters, Reka Pieper, Henning, Marie Moore, Mankato, Minn., and Frieda Hardes, Bigelow, Minn.; and eight grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Charlotte; his parents, Claus and Bena; and his infant sister, Bernice.
