Additional funding available for older job seekers through Experience Works
Experience Works (formerly Green Thumb), the nation's oldest and largest nonprofit employer of job seekers 55 and older, received funding through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act to employ an additional 35 older men and women in Wadena, Todd and surrounding north central Minnesota counties.
Experience Works provides part-time, minimum wage training assignments with public and nonprofit organizations such as schools, historical societies, nursing homes, libraries, senior dining sites and dozens more. Other services include computer skills training, resume preparation, and classes with tips on finding work.
To be eligible for services, an individual must simply be 55 or older, unemployed, and meet a household income eligibility. With the high unemployment rate in the Wadena and Todd County area, and with many persons soon facing the end of their unemployment benefits, Experience Works services could be an excellent temporary financial support until the economy turns around.
Services are confidential and provided free of charge through a grant from the Older Americans Act. To check on eligibility and to learn of the opportunities in your community, please call Marlys or Paul at (218) 631-3483. Applicants may also call a toll-free application number: (800) 450-5627.
