$7.6 million awarded for road and bridge construction in Staples
U.S. Senators Amy Klobuchar and Al Franken and Rep. Jim Oberstar announced that the Department of Transportation is awarding $7.6 million to construct a two-lane roadway and bridge over the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad and U.S. Highway 10 in Staples.
"A 21st-century economy demands a 21st-century transportation network," Klobuchar said. "This project will help improve safety and efficiency for many Minnesotans, and by investing in our infrastructure today, we're laying the groundwork to address our state's transportation needs in the future."
"This project will make it easier for the people of central Minnesota to get to work and to travel the state," Franken said. "It will also bring millions of dollars into our local economy, modernize our infrastructure, and put Minnesotans to work making our state a better place."
"This important transportation grant creates jobs today and a better Minnesota transportation system for the future," Oberstar said. "These construction jobs can't be outsourced, and the paychecks that are earned will also generate additional economic activity in Todd and Wadena counties."
The construction is expected to improve road safety and spur jobs and economic activity in Todd and Wadena Counties. These improvements are part of DOT's Transportation Investment Generating Economic Recovery (TIGER) II Discretionary Grant program for capital investments in highway or bridge projects, public transportation projects, passenger and freight rail transportation projects, port infrastructure investments, and intermodal facilities.
