24th Annual EMS Night held March 15
Eighty-seven EMS personnel from local fire, rescue and police departments attended Tri-County Hospital's 24th annual Emergency Medical Service program. The event was held on Tuesday, March 15 at M-State, Wadena campus.
"This program is designed to provide an educational update for Emergency Services personnel in the Tri-County Health Care service area," explained Allen Smith, Tri-County Hospital EMS manager. "It's also an opportunity to thank our area fire, rescue and police departments for their tireless efforts and dedication to emergency services in their communities."
Speakers included Allen Smith who spoke on the topic, New Trends for Trauma, and David Hildebrandt, RN, CFRN, NREMT-P, Hennepin County Medical Center, who presented information on Stroke 101 for the Pre-Hospital Provider.
Several EMS awards were also presented to area personnel:
Distinguished Service (This distinguished service award is given to employees with outstanding vision, dedication and commitment to excellence.) Full-time: Kurt Manselle, Paramedic; part-time: Julie Jenson, EMT.
First Responder of the Year (This award is given in appreciation of the many volunteer hours and quality emergency care provided to the communities they serve): Tom Renville, Battle Lake Area Rescue Squad; John Rousslang, Verndale Fire & Rescue.
Star of Life (The Star of Life award is given to emergency personnel for manking an extremely noteworthy contribution to efforts which resulted in saving a life.) Allen Smith, paramedic, Brian Pollock, paramedic, David Cuppy, paramedic, Eric Loose, paramedic, Jacob Braith, paramedic, Cory Palm, EMT, Kurt Manselle, EMT, Matt Wedde, EMT - (second occurrence - received one last year), Jennifer Shreves, EMT, Milo Scott, Wadena Police Department - (second occurrence - received two this year), Bruce Uselman, Wadena Police Department, Naomi Plautz, Wadena Police Department, Ron Noon, Wadena Police Department and Bryan Savaloja, Wadena Police Department.

Tornado efforts (In appreciation of the Tri-County Hospital EMS personnel that went above and beyond the call of duty during the June 17, 2010 tornado disaster and clean-up): John Pate, M.D., Allen Smith, Randy Athmann, Sharon Heinen, Jacob Braith, Eric Loose, Brian Pollock, Tom Krueger, Zac Hogan, David Cuppy, Jenny Hoppe, Cory Palm, Matt Wedde, Adam Shamp, Bailee Beiswenger, Dominique Frisco, Gary Stelzer and Kurt Manselle.
