"He was hungry," Wadena Boxing Club coach Bob Tubandt said. "For a 16-year-old he has a lot of talent."

Wadena superheavyweight Jose Perez lost a decision to Duluth's Ryan Wattson, a 2010 national tournament winner, in the Upper Midwest semifinals.
