Singers from Menahga, Miltona advance in Country Showdown

Defending state champion Gregory Michael of Miltona won the Colgate Country Showdown in Wadena Saturday night by performing an original song and a Brad Paisley favorite. He will represent Superstation K-106 in the state competition. Eleven-year-old Devon Worley of Plymouth, Minn., was runner up.

Kayla Stelzer of Menahga will represent KWAD/KNSP in the state contest after winning in Sebeka Friday night. Janie Marie was runner up.

Michael won the 27th Annual Colgate Country Showdown Minnesota State Final last September and the Minnesota-North Dakota Colgate Showdown State competition in 2006.

Michael is working on a pharmacy degree at North Dakota State University. He began singing and playing guitar when he was 18. His music is influenced by Travis Tritt, Blake Shelton, Garth Brooks, Waylon Jennings and Randy Travis.
