The Wadena City Library's Summer Reading Program is in full-swing, with four weeks left. A drawing will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 1 for readers meeting their goal (10 hours for Pre-K to fifth grade, 20 hours for sixth to 12th grade). In the last few years, the library has given away bicycles, tablets, backpacks and t-shirts. Readers still have time to sign up and participate before the program ends on Saturday, July 29.

Remember, summer reading prevents summer slide.

We have some fun and imaginative activities ongoing, supporting the Reading Program's theme, Reading By Design. On Friday, July 14 and 28, we have an all-day STEM-related activity which may include Legos, games, puzzles and coloring. Throughout July, families can pick up a scavenger hunt worksheet and explore the City of Wadena. By solving a themed riddle, kids can pick up a coupon for a special treat.

Our popular story time takes place every Wednesday of the year at 10 a.m. The theme for the rest of the summer is Nature's Amazing Designs. Come by for a story or two and crafts, meet other families and have fun.

The Friends of the Library will be sponsoring a Golf Fundraiser at the Whitetail Run Golf Course on Friday, Aug. 18. All proceeds will benefit the Wadena City Library Building Fund. If you are interested in sponsoring a hole or in participating in the event, you may pick up the registration form at the library or contact Julie Deiss at (218) 631-4395 or email geodice@hotmail.com.

The Friends of the Wadena City Library book discussion group meets at St. Helen's Episcopal Church every second Tuesday at 12 p.m. They will discuss Kitchens of the Great Midwest, a novel by J. Ryan Stradal. Copies are still available from the library for new participants.

The next Wadena City Library Board meeting will be Tuesday, July 18 at 6:30 p.m.

The Kitchigami Regional Library System has redesigned its website for all of its branches. You may check out our new look at www.krls.org. You may also email us your feedback at wadena@krls.org.

The library will be open regular hours for the rest of July and into August. The Wadena City Library will be closed on Monday, Sept. 4 for Labor Day.
