Events happening at Sebeka Community Education
Sebeka Community Asset Builders are once again sponsoring the Nimrod 5K Walk/Run during Nimrod Jubilee Days at Stigman Park. The race will start at 8 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 2, with registration beginning at 7 a.m. Sign up early for pre-registration rates of $15 and a family rate of $30. Family rates are only $30 per group and can consist of parents and children 18 and under or grandparents with grandchildren 18 and under, if registered by Aug. 24. Family rates will include three t-shirts. Additional t-shirts can be purchased for only $5 per person. Door prizes and refreshments will be held at the finish line after the race. Healthy Living with Essential Oils
Are you new to essential oils? Been dabbling a bit, but want to learn more of what you can use them for and do with them? Find out what all the conversation is about in this class. Learn about the benefits of essential oils and also choose three or four items to make and take home with you, that you can incorporate easily into your daily life. Watch our facebook page for more information on what items we will be making in this class. Pre-Register by July 14. The class will be held Aug. 3 from 6-7:30 p.m. at the Sebeka School Home Ec Room. Cost is $20. A minimum of five must sign up with a maximum of 20.
SCAB teen night pool party set for July 19
Sebeka Community Asset Builders will be hosting a teen night at the Sebeka Pool. Come join your friends for some night time fun - swimming, food, refreshments, music and door prizes. This is for students going into 7th-12th grades and is free to those that come. The party will be held July 19 from 9 - 11 p.m. at the Sebeka Pool.
Verndale Prairie Fire Children's Theatre presents 'Pinocchio'
All community members are welcome to join us for the 2017 production of Pinocchio. Verndale Summer Theatre along with Prairie Fire Children's Theatre will work with our actors for one week then we will have two performances. It is truly amazing how much we can accomplish in just one week. Students 1st grade-12th grade and all adults are eligible to participate. Pre-Register by contacting Becky Ludovissie at (218) 445-5184. Performances will be July 10-15. Monday's performance will be at 12:30 p.m. with a schedule to be handed out for remaining shows. The show will be held at the Verndale Auditorium. Tickets are $35 (checks can be made out to Verndale Public School).
Britt's 'N Pieces welcome sign craft slated for July 12
Come out and create your own "Welcome" sign with local artist Brittany Ewert July 12 beginning at 6 p.m. at the Sebeka Event Center. Your sign will be individualized by picking whether you would like it vertical or horizontal in design and also by picking which color of stain you would like to have on your board. Choose from black, dark, light, white, grey or natural (no stain). Please indicate your choices for these options in the notes when registering online or on the registration form when turning it in. Pre-Register by July 7.
Cost is $35 per person with a minimum of five people and a maximum of 15.
String Art class held July 27
Art Bar 39 is known for more than their painting abilities. Choose your own template and create a fun work of art using hammers, nails and strings. The class will be held July 27 from 6-9 p.m. at the Sebeka Event Center. There is a variety of options to choose from, so everyone will walk away with a different work of art. Pre-Register by July 26 (through community education website or artbar39.com). Cost for the class is $39.
AARP Smart Driver Classes set for the summer
AARP has developed a Driver Safety course to help keep driving skills sharp for the Over 50 Groups. There is an eight-hour course for those who have never taken the Over 50 session. Taking the course allows insurance companies to give a 10 percent discount on annual auto policy premiums. The insurance companies do ask that after taking the eight-hour session a refresher of four hours be taken every three years. Classes are at the Sebeka United Methodist Church. Classes begin at 8 a.m. and coffee and snacks are provided.
